The Loire Valley
The moderate climate, history and beautiful scenery are legendary and make the Loire Valley a popular holiday destination for travellers from all around the world. In 2000 UNESCO designated a 300km stretch of the Loire valley, from Angers to Gien, a World Heritage Site.
The Loire Valley has over 300 Chateaux, ranging from Fairy Tale castles, medieval fortifications to ruins, each steeped in history. In addition to the main Chateaux which played host to royalty and the nobles are hundreds of "mini" chateaux built by rich merchants and lesser nobles.
The Loire Valley also boasts 4 medieval cities, Angers, Tours, Blois and Orleans. Tours and Blois are both located about 50km from La Grande Michellerie.
If 300 chateaux and 4 cities were not enough the Loire is covered with countless picturesque towns and villages, breathtaking scenery, 1000's of acres of Oak forests, vineyards, great food and wine.
