Chateaux of the Loire Valley

The chateux of the Loire are spread accross an area 200km long by 100km wide. There are in excess of 300 of these magnificent buildings, many of which until the 15th century were fortifications. The advent of artillary made the forts obsolete and many were rebuilt by royalty and noblemen into the "fairy tale" chateax that remain today. Some are still privately owned but many are now open to the public.
